More About Me and What I Do

I’ve always had a strong interest in advertising and marketing.

My undergrad degree is in Advertising from Marquette University.  I also have a marketing MBA from DePaul University in Chicago.

I spent a number of years in television advertising producing commercials and developing air-time strategies for businesses that aired on networks like ESPN, MTV, HGTV, CNN, and most other top-tier channels.  I love the combination of the art of the advertisement with the science of researching who should see it and when.

After TV, I made a big change and worked as a recruiter helping mid and senior-level computer professionals find jobs (a recruiter, by the way, is the exact same job as a real estate agent except that the product is “jobs”, not “homes”).  Here, I interviewed people day in and day out getting to know them and their stories.  I really love interviewing people and finding out what makes them tick.  That’s one of the reasons I like interviewing people for the Agent Uprising podcast; I want to know how and why people do what they do.

After a decade in the ruthless headhunter industry, I wanted something that was much more “fun.”  So, I started a pet services business focusing on dog walking, running, and pet sitting. I turned a one-man operation (me) into a franchise company with multiple locations across the country and 50+ staff members that collectively make roughly 20,000 dog walking/running visits a year.  I train, coach, and mentor our franchisee team members on running their businesses.  And, for me, this business continues to essentially run on auto-pilot.  This allows me to also work in real estate full-time.

Where I’m at now, as an agent, keeps me very interested in what I do.  Real Estate is such a bizarre industry.  In a lot of ways, it seems broken, yet it continues to function somehow.  I’m always interested in talking with other people about how they’ve made their way in this crazy business.

I love experimenting with lead generation tactics and strategies.  I believe that there’s a need for both traditional marketing (picking up the phone and talking to 10+ new people a day) as well as newer digital approaches (facebook ads, online webinars, local websites, etc.).

There’s a lot of opportunity in real estate and my goal is for this site to give you ideas and step-by-step approaches on how to achieve the goals you’re after.
